Nepal Continues to Discriminate Against Online Casinos
Many countries around the globe have similar views regarding online casinos and online gambling sites. It doesn’t matter if the sites offer some of the best casino games for free, such as slot machines or blackjack, they are not welcomed. Places like the United States has been battling online gaming for a great numbers of years now, but then again the government contradicts itself by allowing state-run lottery and brick and mortar casinos gambling. Other places like Nepal also have confusing laws regarding gambling and have launched serious operations on local casino operators.
In Nepal, people are not allowed to gamble just like it happens in many other countries in the world were gambling is considered illegal and in some cases even immoral. However, what’s contradicting with the anti-gambling laws in Nepal is that in reality the gambling industry is one of the biggest sources of income in the country. Of course, not from Nepalese citizens but from the many tourists that visit the country every year.
Nepal opened their first casino back in 1968 and currently operates eight casino resorts in the capital city of Kathmandu. The casinos have special government licenses that only allow them to admit foreign customers and are constantly screening their customers in order to avoid local from taking part in the action. Police in Kathmandu conduct regular raids on these 8 casinos and more than 28 arrests have resulted from attempts of Nepalese residents of entering these sites and playing casino games. The government is also against online gambling and is working towards the creation of a law that discriminates against these actions as well. Right now, those citizens that are found in violation of the law are fined with a 200 Nepalese Rupees tickets and could go to jail for one year if they are found guilty a second time.
