Laws in Cyprus to Permit Online Casinos
Earlier this year, the Cypriot government made a decision to address the issue of online gambling, in the country in hopes of positively affecting the country with reforms to play their best free slot games and table casino games online. As of right now, the government of Cyprus is extremely serious about changing the country’s online gambling laws in hopes of helping their bleak financial situation through taxes.
The finance Minister of the country, Kikis Kazamias, has said that his team is preparing a legislation for regulated operation of online casinos in Cyprus. Kazamias has recently stated to the House Commerce Committee that, “Many among us would probably never enter such establishments during our lifetime, but this does not mean that we should not respond to the needs of the age, taking into consideration the public interest.” This are definitely great news for online casino lovers in the country and possibly in other countries in the region. The news are predominantly great too since previous administrations have denied reforms to the online gambling laws many times in the past.
Back in 2009 president Christofias did not care about the fact that Greek Cypriots were spending their earnings elsewhere instead of spending them at online casinos in the country and helping towards fixing the financial crisis. He soon added that as long as he was president these regulations and laws towards online casinos in the country would not change. However, things are different now and with economy suffering and budgets not being enough, proponents of this law are counting on the notion that Cyprus must not ignore a sector that could easily bring much needed revenues to the country’s dire situation. Online casino supporters believe that this new legislation will keep the money invested in off-shore gambling within the country.
